FLEA CONTROL Back to Health

If your dog spends a lot of time outside during the summer, he or she is likely to pick up fleas even if you are doing everything right.

We have found several natural methods of flea control that can be effective in helping to keep fleas under control.

  • For flea prevention and control, we recommend giving your dog a bath with a mild shampoo with tea tree oil added—you can find this at Wal-mart. Bathe him thoroughly, and rub him down vigorously with a towel afterwards. Wash his bedding as often as possible. A weekly bath should help keep the fleas at bay.
  • Diatomaceous Earth (DE) helps to kill fleas and other external parasites. Brush the DE into the dog’s fur, and sprinkle into any bedding, carpet, etc. It is completely non-toxic and safe. You can also use DE in your yard, to rid your yard of fleas and other parasites. To order Diatomaceous Earth (DE), you can search on the internet. Be sure to get food grade. One bag should be plenty. This is the site where we purchased ours. http://www.gardenharvestsupply.com .
  • Be sure to feed your dog a good diet, using nutritious dog food. You may also want to add garlic powder to his dry food during flea season.
  • Additionally, we highly recommend an all-natural nutritional supplement called NuVet Plus™. You can find out more and order online at www.NuVet.com/98014
